What may seem a matter of fact to most meant a lot more to me than I imagined:
I was immensely against getting vaccinated.
But after a sleepless night anxiously & turbulently debating in my own head whether or not I should get this Rona vaccine, I finally decided to get the shot.
Altruism ignited my change of heart.
I used to think it was a battle of principles against uncertain and unproven safety protocols & agendas being pushed onto us.
However, the only principle that should matter in everyone’s minds & hearts right now is altruism.
Now is not the time to think about myself nor the long term effects and possible agendas of these vaccines.
Millions have died because of this virus.
Millions are suffering right now because of this virus.
Everyone is sacrificing right now for a better world.
This is for herd immunity.
This is for the people who are less fortunate who, god forbid, I infect because I am unvaccinated, will pay the ultimate price of death or debilitating hospital bills.
This is for all the people who cannot take the vaccine due to the medical conditions they have.
This is for our collapsing health system.
This is for my parents who are senior citizens.
This is for unity, as one human race, sacrificing & taking a risk together and for each other.
It’s about us taking care of each other: caring for the person next to you who may not be as fortunate.
Lastly, this is about the scene in Titanic wherein Leonardo DiCaprio said:
“I’m too invested now.”
“If you jump, I jump!”
I know this decision & perspective will create many positive ripple effects to tons of people around me.

I wholeheartedly thank my amiga Eshi as her altruistic perspective completed my change of heart.
If it had been anyone else that I would’ve talked to, I probably would not have gotten the shot.
You’re a superhero in my eyes for this one, deadass. 💯
Before, I also had the same thoughts. So anxious because of a lot of uncertainty, however, I realized that getting my vaccine is not only protecting myself from contracting the virus but also helping our nation in its plight towards recovery.
